Following the opening of the exhibition presenting Croatia at the 58th International Exhibition of Visual Arts on Thursday, May 9, 2019, Minister of Culture, Ph.D. Nina Obuljen Koržinek attended the opening of the exhibition "Place of Intermittent Departures", which is the result of an international project by the City of Dubrovnik, the Dubrovnik Art Gallery and the City of Venice.

The exhibition presents the City of Dubrovnik for the first time during the 58th Venice Biennale in the Tesa space at Arsenal, with Dubrovnik artists Izvor Pende, Slaven Tolj and Marijana Pende exhibiting their work. This continues the cooperation of the two sister cities, and promotes Dubrovnik as a city aware of its contemporary art scene, which values ??the current artistic moment.

The exhibition was opened by Dubrovnik Mayor Mato Frankovic, pointing out that it is of utmost importance for the City of Dubrovnik, which is being presented for the first time at the Venice Biennale. Director of the Dubrovnik Art Gallery Tonko Smokvina and curator Jelena Tamindžija spoke about the exhibition's layout and concept.

The set exhibition questions the creation of meta-narratives and methods of domesticating problems and stereotyping and simplifying complicated historical truths with a view to controlling them.

The layered work of these authors escapes the clear definition and conscious questioning of one's own background and artistic practice. Their works are kept on the border between binary oppositions figuratively / abstractly, sculpture / object, performance / situation, artwork / drawing of a child, questioning the power of the border as a place of provocation of the established divisions. The exhibition will be open until November 24, 2019.
