After a wet winter comes a wild fine-arts summer for Colorado. It’s all in the names this year: Conductor Alondra de la Parra, choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, composer Poul Ruders, artists Rashid Johnson and Clark Richert — all are in the top ranks of their fields and are bringing their best new work to the region.

The action kicks off indoors this week with the visual arts, then the warmer weather, and the music, begins.


1. “Clark Richert in Hyperspace,” Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, June 7-Sept. 1
Clark Richert is one of Colorado’s most important — and mind-blowing — painters, and this exhibit, filling the galleries of the Museum of Contemporary Art, could serve as the definitive retrospective of his impressive career. Richert has been around long enough to have roots in the legendary Drop City artist commune, which he co-founded in1965, so there is an abundance of material for curator Zoe Larkins to work with connecting the dots between past and present. Expect large, colorful, abstract canvases and not a bit of sentimentality as the tale unfolds.
