David Richard Contemporary is pleased to present a new selection of oil paintings on aluminum supports by David Solomon. The flat metallic finish provides a unique surface on which to work—the paint floats and sits on the surface, allowing him to mix and layer the paint thus, providing both texture and depth. Solomon grew up in Florida, so the organic forms and shapes in his paintings are inspired by nature and more specifically, the sea. Seedpods, coral formations and sea-life are all visible in his abstract compositions. There is also a modernist sensibility to Solomon’s paintings, something reminiscent of surrealism with the dream-like compositions and biomorphic figurations working across the compositions.

Solomon studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and assisted Frank Lobdell in his studio. He has lived and worked in Santa Fe for the past eleven years where he has been an active member and supporter of the local art scene through the many exhibitions he has curated. He has had numerous solo shows and work included in many group exhibitions in Santa Fe, San Francisco, Phoenix and Milwaukee.
