David Richard Contemporary is delighted to present XeroX, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Peter Demos. Manipulating and repeating hard-edged geometric shapes on the canvas, combined with a mixture of matte and high sheen surfaces painstakingly brushed or poured, Demos creates optical effects with his black and white paintings. The result is the illusion of geometric shapes tipping in and out of the picture plane, or creating curved structures, or a variety of other deceptions. Demos’s canvases are minimal and reductive, with clean lines and compositions that seem simple, yet there is a depth and complexity that conveys a thoughtful sophistication. His artwork is about form and surface, which provides a physicality and intrigue that draws the viewer closer to decode and unravel the mystery.
