Anthe Zacharias was adventurous, experimental and prolific in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. She loved color and the application of pigment on supports, mostly canvas and paper. Earlier in her career, in the 1950s, the focus was on mark making, singular strokes using brushes and palette knives with a narrow color palette. Even then, she experimented with the oil medium and layered pigment to achieve depth and physical presence with bold impasto strokes and gritty textured surfaces.
