BENT PERIMETERS: THE 'SHAPED CANVAS' AND ABSTRACTION, 1960s TO TODAY

Featuring: Francis Celentano, Lilly Fenichel, Francis Hewitt, Charles Hinman, Ward Jackson, Paul Reed, Leo Valledor

The focus of the exhibition is on the ‘shaped canvas’ and artists who challenged the conventional picture plane and notions of ‘painting’ in the 60s. Many artists have and continue to use the shaped canvas in combination with the formal elements of line and color to create the illusion of a three-dimensional object in a two-dimensional picture plane. This exhibit will present a range of paintings from the 60s through today on a variety of supports, including canvas, wood, fiberglass and plastic.
