Wheeler produced small and medium sized Abstract Expressionism paintings using distinct brush strokes on canvas and many different colors within defined palettes for each composition. She painted different colors adjacent to one another so that they seemed to meld and blend to create a new hue when viewed form a distance. She had an in depth understanding of color interaction and color mixing.
