Darby Bannard (1934-2016) emerged in the 1960s with his reductive and minimalist Color Field paintings and was represented by Kasmin Gallery, London, Richard Feigen Gallery, Chicago and Tibor de Nagy Gallery, New York. His work was included in Clement Greenberg’s 1964 exhibition, Post-Painterly Abstraction, presented at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and in the 1965 exhibition organized by William C. Seitz, The Responsive Eye, at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Bannard studied at Princeton University with artist Frank Stella and art historian Michael Fried.
